Republic Serbia




The Republic of Serbia or Republika Srbija is a landlocked country in Central and Southeastern part of Europe, covering the southern part of the Pannonian Plain and the central part of the Balkan Peninsula.It is boardered by Hungary on the North,Bulgaria and Romania on the East,Albania and FYR of Macedonia (Formal Yugoslavian Republic) on the South and with Montenegro,Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina on West. The capital city of Serbia is Belgrade (more about Belgrade in other topic)

For centuries shaped at cultural boundaries between East and West, a powerful medieval Kingdom,later know as Serbian Empire,has been born taking up much of the Balkan.The modern stat of Serbia emerged in 1817 following the Second Serbian Uprising.Later, it expanded its territory further south to include Kosovo and Metohija and the regions of Raska and regions nearby river Vardar (Macedonia) in 1912.At the end, Vojvodina which was the part of Habsburg monarchy.Vojvodina decide to proclaime seccession from Austria-Hungary and to unite with Serbia.That's happened in November 25, 1918.Boarders as now were established at the end of the World War II when Serbia become on of six Republics of great Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

After death of grate communist leader Josip Broz Tito in 1980, Yugoslavia suffer many crisis.At the end of 80' Republic of Slovenia want to become independent country.Other countries except Montenegro and Bosnia and Hercegovina followed their leads.Leaders of all six Republics in Parlament of Yugoslavia present their ideas for resolving crisis in Yugoslavia but they didn't agreed.

1991 on democratic elections in Slovenia,citizens of Slovenia says YES to become independent Republic.All Europe Countries accept Slovenia as independent country.After them,Croatia did same,and Macedonia to,but Macedonia is not accepted as independent country from all Europe countries.

From 1991-1995, 3 countries were involved in civil war.Bosnia,Croatia,and Serbia and Montenegro,that time as a new country (Federal Republic of Yugoslavia).Civil war ended in 1995 with peace subscription in Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton,Ohio.the full and formal agreement was signed in Paris, France, on December 14, 1995.

In 2003 Federal Republic of Yugoslavia change name to Serbia and Montenegro. It was based on commonwealth.

on May 21,citizens of Montenegro vote on referendum for independent from Serbia.

Now all six ex Republics of Yugoslavia are independent and they are part of United Nations.

Geography of Serbia



Serbia is country located in the Balkans ( a historical and geographical region of southeastern Europe) and in the Pannonian Plain (a region of central Europe).It shares borders with Albania,Bosnia,Bulgaria,Croatia,Hungari,Macedonia,Montenegro and Romania.Access to the Adriatic see is available through Montenegro and the Danube River provides shipping access to inland Europe and the Black Sea.

GENERAL

Serbia covers a total of 88.361 km2,which places it ate 113th place in the world.Its total border length amounts to 2.027km.Most with Romania 476km.It has 6.167 registered settlements,207 urban and 5960 rural.

TERRAIN

Serbia's terrain ranges from rich,fertile plains of the northern Vojvodina region,imestone ranges and basins in the east,and in the southeast ancient mountains and hillsThe north is dominated by the Danube River,A tributary,the Morava River flows through the more mountainous southern regions.

In Central Serbia,the terrain consists chiefly of hills,low and medium-high mountains,interspersed with numerous rivers and creeks.The main communication and develpoment line stretches southeast of Belgrade,toward Nis and Skopje (capital of Macedonia),along the valley of Great and South Morava river.Most major cities are located on or around that line,as well as the main railroad and highway.On the Est of it,the terrain quickly rises to limestone ranges of Stara Planina and Homolje,relatively sparsely populated.Onthe West,height of mountains slowly rises towards southwest,but they do not form real ridges.The highest mountains of that area are Zlatibor and Kopaonik.On Kosovo,larger fields of Kosovo and Metohija are located,ending in high mountain ridges of Prokletije and Sar Planina on Albanian and Macedonian border

MOUNTAINS

Mountains cover the largest part of Central Serbia and Kosovo.Four mountain systems meet in Serbia:Dinaric Alps in the west cover the greatest territory,and stretch from northwest to southest.Carpathian Mountains and Balkan Mountains stretch in north-south direction in the eastern Serbia,west of the Morava valley.Ancient mountains along the South Morava belong to Rilo-Rhodope Mountain system.

The highest peak in Serbia is Djeravica with 2.656 meters, located on Prokletije mountain in Kosovo.The highest peak in Central Serbia is Midzor on Stara planina with 2.169 meters,while Vrsacki breg with 641 tops Vojvodina.
